Mac ventured into a successful real estate career in 2003 and has never looked back. Naturally entrepreneurial, he spent 7 years in media sales and 6 years as a retail clothing store owner in Bay Harbor before finding his career niche in real estate. He’s found the representation of buyers and sellers of real estate in his native Northern Michigan to be his true calling. “I am lucky that I get to do what I do and, to be honest, going into the office doesn’t feel like work to me. I love it.” After forming Gaslight Group Properties in January 2011, Mac set out to put Gaslight Group Properties on the map as a forward-thinking consortium of agents whose mantra is to always listen to their clients’ goals and work tirelessly to achieve them. “I consistently tell clients that I am going to be doing this for a long time so I would rather do it right the first time and foster a long-term relationship as opposed to making a quick buck and have them be dissatisfied.” 8 years, some growing pains, two partners (Danielle Smith & Pete Platte) and nearly 20 agents later, that mantra is still the same as day 1. "Listen and work (and make sure you always answer your phone)."
Where you’ll find him during his free time:
Mac likes to spend time with his wife, Kimberly, and children, Anders, Ames and Copeland. "We spend a lot of time outside, whether it is on the ski hills, on the water, on sporting fields, or biking and hanging out around town. We like to get out of the house and enjoy Northern Michigan in all seasons."
His Most Admired Strength:
Mac is vigilant in distilling the complex into something easier to digest. When it comes to property, this is particularly handy. He loves digging into maps, zoning ordinances, DEQ rules and regulations and any other tricky aspects of real estate or land use issues. And if Mac can’t figure it out on his own, he’s connected to a multitude of professionals that can help get to the bottom of any question.
What is most rewarding about the job?
When clients are happy, Mac is happy. It’s just that simple. “Our methodology is rooted in hard work, honesty, and using our expertise in the marketplace to make the client’s goals a reality. With that mindset the client wins and we win, which is what we are all about.”
